25th edition of the MCB Rodrigues Scholarship: Two New Scholars celebrated

The MCB Rodrigues Scholarship has been awarded to two new recipients this year. The two beneficiaries, both 20 years old, are Noémie Christabelle Chevery, who will pursue studies in Biology at the University of Mauritius, and Yvan Polimon, who will begin a course in Software Engineering at Université des Mascareignes. The official scholarship award ceremony was held on Friday, June 20, at the Tekoma Hotel in Rodrigues, in presence of Thierry Hébraud, CEO of MCB Ltd, who made the trip for the occasion.
Committed to Rodrigues
Rodrigues needs skilled professionals, and Noémie Christabelle Chevery is aware of this. The young student has chosen to study Biology, and once her studies are completed, she is determined to contribute to the island's development. "Nowadays, many genetically linked diseases are continually being discovered, including cancer and other rare illnesses that are often difficult to treat. Specialising in biology will help me deepen my knowledge and allow me to contribute to Rodrigues's scientific and medical advancement," she explains. Yvan Polimon, for his part, chose to study Software Engineering to contribute to innovation and sustainable development on the small island. "Through this field of study, I hope to help Rodrigues move toward the future," he says.
MCB Rodrigues Scholarship: 25 Years of Commitment and 47 Scholars
Since its inception, the MCB Rodrigues Scholarship has focused on fields considered essential for the development of Rodrigues Island. On its 25th anniversary, former scholarship recipients came together to highlight the richness and importance of the diverse academic disciplines supported by the program. The event also shed light on the scholarship's contribution to building a local talent pool through testimonials from past scholars. For the past 25 years, the MCBRS has awarded at least one scholarship annually to a student of Rodriguan origin who resides on the island. Several criteria are considered when awarding the scholarship: the recipient must come from a low-income family and must have chosen a field of study likely to contribute to the development of Rodrigues after graduation. Funded by the MCB Forward Foundation, the scholarship includes a monthly allowance of Rs 12,000 per recipient, covering expenses such as educational materials and transportation. It also covers university fees and the cost of airfare.
